Equipment

I started buying fishing gear.  I have terrible ADHD, which means I find something that interests me, learn about it, and start buying a lot of things I don't really need.  Remember,  I haven't caught a fish yet.  I figured it must be this old equipment.  Time for some new toys.

It started with a baitcaster combo from a big box sporting good store.  I think it was about forty bucks.  Geez forty bucks and it didn't even come with line!  So I bought some fishing line and wound it on this new baitcaster reel.

This was the first baitcaster I had ever tried to use.  See, I thought it was just a fancy version of the pushbutton reel I used as a child.  I tied on my hook, sinker, ant lure and pressed the release button.  The bait dropped straight to the ground and stopped.   The reel's spool did not stop until a mess of red Cajun Line stopped it's motion.  It was only upon my return home that I learned about baitcasters.  Today, I can use them, but it's been a struggle, and I still get tangled sometimes.

So I cleaned my grandfather's Johnson Century reel, put it on the baitcasting rod, and put the baitcaster away for a while.

Lessons Learned:
1.  New equipment doesn't make up for lack of skill.
2.There's nothing wrong with learning new things, but it's also good to stick with what you know.
