Take a Kid Fishing

Most of us who enjoy outdoor recreation were introduced to various activities as children.  I think this holds true for hunting, camping, gardening, sailing, fishing, and even strolling the neighborhood after supper.  The other day, I took my little boy down to the creek for some fun by the water.

So, I Caught a Catfish....

Last weekend I decided to experiment with trolling from my kayak.  I was totally unprepared, but as I say, it was an experiment.  Within the first hour on the water, I began my most unpleasant fishing experience to date.

Fishing or Football?

September is a beautiful time in the Southeast.   The triple-digit temperatures are a memory, and the humidity tapers off just a bit.  The sun is still up after supper, and folks are starting to come outside again after their air conditioned summer sequestration.

Fish and animals are moving again.  I have to keep an eye out for deer at night.  Fish start popping the water in the mid afternoon.  Dove season is open, and some of us show just how bad we are with a shotgun after a long summer break.

Schools are back in session, and that means fall sports are in full swing.  So I, like many others, am faced with a dilemma on the weekend.  Do I fish or watch football?

It's a difficult time for me.  Some have suggested that I do both activities on Saturday.  That ain't happening.  I'm not opposed to early mornings, but fishing wears me out, either from paddling or from walking the shoreline for several hours.

What a confusing time the fall can be!  I wouldn't want it any other way.

Go Wolfpack!
